my thinking was that if he is not allowed to say cash only then the buyer would see cash on delivery the better of the two options.

CASH ON DELIVERY is C.O.D. That is a completely different thing than paying cash on pickup. It is when you send out an item and the buyer pays for it when it is being delivered. In my opinion you would be crazy to use this method to sell anything.

I have posted on this before and as usual some of the regulars here will argue just for the sake of it as they did last time.... Thats what they do on these forums im afraid.
But I have a negative feedback for just this situation. I refunded a paypal payment on an item which was to be collected. This was because in the past I have had an item collected and then chargedback by a dishonest buyer.
It is against the law for a business to accept payment by Credit Card in advance on an item to be collected at a later date. The same precedent should apply to paypal. However neither Ebay or Paypal are answerable to Australian law. ( I knoew this as a fact because I used to have merchant facilities in my Sydney store and i spent 7 years as a practicing Solicitor for.)
They will make you accept paypal on an item to be collected and you will not be protected if the buyer is dishonest. They can even claim you offered free post verbally and so you will need to prove postage. Your options are as you have found to have your listing cancelled or to risk negative feedback by spiteful buyers if you refund their Paypal payment..
I don't know why anyone would argue with you over that, seems perfectly sensible to me.
My only thoughts are that a buyer can use a credit card to pay for a pick up purchase if they use Paypal if they don't have the money to pay cash. But that is their problem not the sellers and maybe they should get a cash advance if they want the item.

Just how many times do I have to post this.
It is perfectly simple to list without having to accept Paypal for pick up items.
1. In delivery methods only select freight.
2. In payment methods select Paypal and cash on pick up (not COD)
3. State in listing that you prefer cash on pick up however you are happy to arrange freight if the buyer wishes and to ask for a quote.
Result:
They either turn up with the cash or you send them an invoice including delivery (usually extremely expensive) using Pack & Send's most expensive, on line trackable, fully insured service plus a decent handling charge and they either pay with Paypal or you open an unpaid item dispute.
It says in this book I am reading that by 2065 80% of women will be overweight.
See what a trendsetter I am?

Hiya
just wondering ......if a buyer pays via paypal for a pick up item....then does a chargeback i.e gets his/her money back. Does that not mean that any buyer paying via Pay pal can do a chargeback...even if the item is sent via post, courier, etc..........????
Just wondering?????

Just how many times do I have to post this.
Every time a new thread is started on the subject.
PJ surely you realise that not everyone sits here reading all the threads everyday of their life and only come here when things go wrong.
If a seller were to search the subject and posted on an old thread they would be crucified for digging up old threads.
However if you are tired of posting the information then don't continue to do so.

Open a paymate account and offer paymate and cash on pick up for your local pick up items.
The buyer will need to either learn to trust paymate or pay cash

Well thank you PJ----- but you don't have to be rude about it, if you don't like seeing the same questions asked ( this is my first question here) back off and find something else to do with your time than peruse this disscussion board and have your 2 cents worth
