Coming from a farming background I see a lot of similarities between ebay sellers and farmers. Both groups are made up of a huge number of stand alone businesses often competing against each other for market share. Both contain owners with a huge varied range of opinion and businesses. Small hobby type farmers, large multi generational family farms, corporates etc. Whilst most of the time farmers are a fragmented ( and often tormented ) group with no common goal or identity, there have been several occasions over the past 20-30 years when they have stood together as one united voice. On one occasion the unions where blocking the main city ports and not allowing farmers to load sheep for export. After weeks of blockades, the farmers organised a huge secret campaighn. On a designated night, farmers from several states arrived at the inland  feedlot where the sheep where held with thier small farm trucks. Teams of farmers then worked throughout the night to load the sheep onto the trucks and cart them several hundred Km. to a regional country port where other farmers loaded the sheep onto the waiting ship. The Media and unions woke up the next morning to the ship sailing off into the sunrise with the sheep on board. The whole thing was mainly organised by individual farmers who where respected leaders within their communities liasing with each other and working in strictest secrecy. I was a young fella at the time and not privy to all of the goings on but remember the sense of excitement at such a huge diverse group of people standing as one for a common goal against an all powerfull oponent. I,m not sure exactly how this relates to ebay sellers, but there must be some lessons to be gained from other groups successes and experiences.
