G'day Cats,

Just some background to the earlier posts wondering why the NS sellers are being smiled upon so favourably at the moment .....

In the last investor report to Wall St, ebay had to report downturns in turnover, profit & it's original mainstay, auctions.

Not really surprising with the CEO's penchant for trying to "Westfield" ebay.

ebay have also been taking a bucketing on the net over the apparent "persecution" of small sellers (Mom & Pop, or "the noise") & occasional sellers. The latter tend to use the auction format & let the market determine their price.

There is no doubt that, particularly in the US, small sellers are listing/selling less on ebay & more on their own or other websites.

The 40 free listings was an attempt to keep a minimum base of small NS sellers & boost auction numbers. The 100/150 promotions are a sign that ebay is struggling to succeed with that.

The 3 free re-lists an attempt to keep their listings live for more than 10 days so they can say " We have experienced significant growth in our core business during the last quarter".

Thankfully, due to the ebay system globalisation program, we get to take advantage of it downunder these days ......
