Postage on eBay is a licence to gouge by some sellers, and eBay itself.
I just got charged $40 US to post an 4A standard envelope to Australia.
Ever since eBay's Global Shipping came in, and they began taking fees on postage, sellers have been leaving in droves. What's left is over priced rubbish and dodging sellers gouging on postage to make up the difference.
I used to use PicClick to see what sales had gone through and what were cancelled owing to excessive postage (most likely reason). However you can't see sold items anymore. Perhaps eBay didn't want people knowing just how much doesn't get a bid anymore, let alone sell.
Enjoy eBay whilst it lasts... because with few reputable sellers and high postal charges... it's not worth using (eBay's greed is destroying the platform).

Interesting, you will be pleased to know that it costs nearly $30 to send an A4 envelope from Australia to the USA, so prices are comparable.
Gladly the droves leaving only appear to be the ones coming on the board and complaining, and generally when you check their profile a month or 2 later, they are back again. A break is as good as a holiday they say.
