Yes this does appear to be a problem. Buyers should always be aware that the cost to return the item should be considered when buying. It is better to ask all the relevant questions before buying.
Recently I bought some LED light bulbs which had been misleadingly described as 25w in the title of the listing ( the first place where a potential buyer looks). Much further down in all the large amount of details given by the seller (in small print) it showed these as being 3 w LEDs. I opened a dispute on Pay Pal and received a full refund of the bid price. However the cost to ship the items back was much more than I had paid in the first place. I choose to return the goods and suffer the cost of postage as a matter of principle and believing that the seller in China may have felt the pain of the loss a bit more than I. My suggestion to the seller to reword the listing was ignored and I dare say that very many more buyers would be as disappointed as I was.

Now dat's what I'm talkin' bout!
Might have to send a copy to my local MP and suggest an urgent implementation is required for the future preservation of society.

I contacted PayPal to ask their advice. They said they did not cover postage (yep, I know that, so all good) but would provide me with a refund less postage costs and I could keep the glasses.
This is somethink to keep in mind, as I have read similar stories.
Unfortunately, the few disputes I have lodged with PayPal I have not had such luck, even after speaking to a consultant on the phone, it's always been pay the postage.
I think you might be a person who walks up to a poker machine and drops in one coin and wins the jack pot.![]()

It seems that the "matter of principle" always comes with a cost.![]()

it blew me away, it sooo wasn't the response I was expecting.
I had a small hope they may say that MAYBE they wouldn't require me to post the item back (they do it if it is cost prohibitive), but to settle it like that without even raising a dispute??
Blew me away.
and LOL, wish I was that person with the poker machine LOL, but I don't gamble (not even a raffle ticket or a ticket in a prize home) so i guess we will never know, eh?
Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

@chameleon54 wrote:Ebays policy of buyers paying return postage does have some merit as it can go some way to protecting sellers from buyers simple change of mind or buyers purchasing specialist tools, using them for thier job and then wanting to return them etc.
Yes, this is a conundrum.
I have read in a tool suppliers feedback about his suspicions that a buyer purchased a tool and used it before asking for a refund.
I suppose there is a relative equilibrium of unscrupulous buyers as there is sellers.![]()

I too would not call myself a gambler, although I have been to the casino on the odd social occasion, but would not waste more than about $10.
Ironically for you though, some people may consider buying things on eBay is a Gamble.![]()
(or selling as well I suppose)

Reminds me of someone I met once who invited me to go on a vintage motorcylcle run (generally populated with old school Harleys, Triumphs, Nortons and BSAs) in prime position on the back of his (relatively modern) AP scooter / bike.... Alas, I politely declined (didn't have anything to match the fluro jacket
).
