I have come across an Australian round 50 cent coin 1966 which is gold in colour not silver. Is it plated, I can't find any info on it

I haven't seen or heard of that before.
Unless it is obviously gold plated which would be very gold, it appears more to be the tarnish it has taken on.
Silver tarnishes can behave differently depending on moisture and oxygen.
If this one has been in that coin holder for a long time then it could have taken on that colour due to the lack of oxygen and some of the chemicals in the plastic. Similar to the way some clear acetates will become yellowish.

Tarnish is uneven , but this is perfectly even on both sides and rim

Not so much tarnish but I am wondering if the silver has picked up chemicals from the plastic.
Just a thought as it's difficult without seeing it in person.
If you have a coin dealer near you, might be worth asking.
If it's in a 1966 set and there is no mention of a special issue 50c in this set then it's probably a time related change to the silver.
