Did Nepal temple ban animal sacrifices at Gadhimai festival?

I was going to post a video of this but the videos are  too brutal and explicit.  I'd never heard of this "festival" before but last year over 250,000 animals were slaughtered;

Oh yes, I've heard of this barbaric slaughter.  It applies to all animals including thousands of dogs and cats.  It makes me sick to the stomach.
