hindsight is a wonderful thing i know,

but after 6 previous failures to give birth maybe the vets should have fixed her so she couldnt get pregnant as seems she had a serious problem in that department.

being endangered should not be a reason to keep trying to breed.

In all fairness David, this was not a planned pregnancy....she was on the pill. It happens in humans too.

According to the article the vets were of 2 minds whether to let the pregnancy go ahead and when it was decided to do so they took all possible precautions.

Sometimes these things happen no matter how careful humans (and orangutans) try to be.

Perhaps she couldnt be de sexed David, I am sure they did they would have been doing they very best they could to look after her

I ask myself why they didn't abort the foetus knowing she did not have the anatomical structure to bear a child, but then she would have been under the very best veterinary care. It would have been a blow for them to lose such a magnificent animal, not only on compassionate grounds but she would have been worth a lot in monetary value. The loss will be great for them.
