Nothing, my DD is studying full time and working part time and unless the studying stops, she will not pay board.

My 15 year old sister still lives at home. She works part time as well as completing high school. She pays $50 towards the fortnighly shopping. My parents and her think it's fair. It's not about the money really, it's more about responsibility.

scogag - depends how much your son earns when he finished uni.  If he's earning $100k a year, I'd charge him $200 to $300 a week.  If your son is earning $500 a week, then I'd charge him maybe $50 plus contribute to the bills.

When I lived at my parents I paid $50 a week plus my bills.

Two of my kids have part time jobs - they pay 10% of their pay for "board". (It is actually banked for them, we don't take it off them per se) One is at school, one at uni.

I believe it is all about learning how to budget for when they (hopefully) one day venture out into the real world.

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

OP do you mean your son will be moving from studying at Uni to working in a full time job?

I would charge a flat rate for board .,w, and a share of electricity, water, internet bills. The rate would depend on what he earns. Or whether he has saving goals for a house or car or travel and you don't mind him paying a bit less so he can achieve those goals.

My youngest works part time and studies full time at Uni and pays a small amount for board. She has car/petrol expenses, textbook expenses etc. Is not home some days/nights so doesn't require meals 7/7 days.
