There are approx 100,000 homeless people in Aust, yet the liberal gov wants to spent 100 million dollars on a prebicite re gay marriage    .... Surely this money could be used ( better spent ) providing a home for our homeless?

This dual citizenship is in many cases a storm in a teacup.

How can someone who was born here, has never been to the other country suddenly be a citizen of that country because his mother made an application on his behalf.

It says more about the ethics of that other country (and his Mum) than it does about that politician in the Australian Parliament.

also, why is not asked (have you citizenship of any other country) when a person files for australian citizenship? as its being made important suddenly (i'm sure we have had some parlimentarians in the past who if we looked carefully were also duel citizens)

yes its allways been important with getting into govt but its just suddenly being discovered we have govt full of refugees! lol

cant be that suddenly we have 4 or 5 in one term and its never happened before.

that guy that talks like arnie swarzzennegger might not be an aussie?

There have been questions asked about Tony Abbott's citizenship for a long time but he has managed to dodge giving any answers.  Maybe this will flush out a few answers.

Of course anyone applying for citizenship will be a citizen of another country.  If you are here legally you must have come from somewhere.  The only truly stateless people would be refugees and they don't just walk in and apply for Australian citizenship.

We do not have a government full of refugees.....just Australian citizens who happen to come from another country and who have not formally renounced their citizenship of their former homeland.

Who knows how often it has happened before?   And does it really matter?  If they are Australian citizens and have lived here for years how is it going to affect anything if they are also citizens of the country where they were born.
