Very sad case, but why did she spend 2 and a half years in custody?

id have thought maybe a psycheatric hospital but not prison.

She must have been on remand for that length of time as the case has only just gone to court.

It is not an unusual scenario.....after a conviction the prisoner is released immediately due to time already served.

I hope she was medically examined before being put on remand.

I agree.  Although I don't know all the facts of the case, it really does look like she needed psychiatric help and a prison was not the right place for her.   I suspect there is a lot more to the story that required more compassion on the side of the authorities/law.
