Is this a scam?

So, I wake up this morning to a notification which says money has been deposited in my eBay account. And a message which says “can you wrap up, box up to post and let me know how much I owe you” I replied it’s already sold, purchaser said “I know because I bought it” I replied I sold it months ago to which the purchaser replied “can you refund my money then”

It is for an item I sold months ago and isn’t currently listed for sale. And it’s strange the purchaser didn’t contact me first before depositing money in my eBay account.
Should I be wary of this supposed purchaser?

Is this a scam?

you need to let us know a little more.

What was the item?

Did you send it with tracking?

Did you check that the ID of the member who bought is the same as the one who sent the message?

How much did the item sell for?

Was it a pick-up item with the buyer requesting posting?

Motors can be a 'funny' category for returns and refunds.  Do not refund until you get more advice here (others will post their replies).

eBay has been known to relist long ended items.  It might just be that eBay listed the item that sold months ago and this member bought and paid for it.

Now that you let them know you don't have it they want their money back.

Your sold items shows one item sold yesterday
