Buyer wants my bank acct details - is this a scam?

Twice recently, brand new members (0 feedback) have won bids; then contact me saying they are having problems with their PayPal and can I provide my bank account details so they can make a bank transfer. I'm a new seller and this worries me, is it foolish to disclose BSB and Account Number? How do others handle this? If a seller offers bank transfer as payment method does the buyer usually see those details? Or am I worrying about nothing?

All a buyer can do is deposit money into your account so it is safe.

However I too am not happy to give bank details so I have a debit card only for internet transactions not linked to my other accounts.

You could quickly go and get a debit card and have them deposit into that.

When a seller accepts bank deposit they have the choice to have bank details showing upon checkout.
