Do I have to be an established seller with ebay in order to open a store?

I haven't sold on ebay before and i want to open a store. Is this possible or will I need to establish myself selling through auctions first?

No you don't, but all new sellers have limits on their accounts so it is not worthwhile opening a store until you are established.
Stores become viable if you are listing hundreds of items and mostly as Buy it Nows.
Sell some items from your account first and you may find there is not much advantage for you with a store.
