So I haven't been paid for an item I sold on ebay and seem to have been conned!

After having sold an item on ebay I received emails from both ebay and paypal advising to send
the item which I did. I was asked to show a copy of the receipt and I sent information. I am now receiving emails
asking me to transfer some money on the account of the buyer (some story about some fraudulent package). The address of the item
was in Nigeria...If I try to repport this on ebay it tells me that my item number is not valid.
What are the steps I am supposed to take to make sure that I get paid.

You have fallen for the oldest trick in the book....didn't the address in Nigeria ring any alarm bells?
You are not going to get paid. You should NEVER send an item until you see the money in your paypal account.
All you can do now is report it to ACORN, the online fraud people.
