when i list an item for sale at auction how can i put a reserve price to prevent it being sold to cheaply.

There are no reserve prices on ebay Australia, unless you are selling a car
It is up to you as the seller to decide what you want for the item, you do not have to start an auction at 99 cents because 'ebay suggests it'
Only ever start an auction for the minimum you are willing to sell for if you only get 1 bid (and remember the fees from both ebay and paypal)
Or, only offer a 'buy it now' option
