Australia Post scam email

Just saw a memo at work about a hoax email from Australia Post claiming they have an undelivered parcel. They request to print a label via the link provided that you take to collect your parcel. Clicking the link installs the latest Cryptolocker virus and locks your computer remotely.

Past ones requested money to the scammers to unlock it. They did actually unlock it if you paid. Most who paid did it because they had files not backed up that they couldn't replace.

The only way to fix it is reformat your computer. This is a good time to make sure everything is backed up on your computer. It's also a reminder to never click links in emails, even if they look genuine.

We use a remote network storage device in our place.

So that way if anything like this happens or the computer simply crashes then all our data is stored independent of any computer.

The device is configured as RAID. That means there are two separate hard drives in it and they are automatically mirrored. So if one drive fails the other one still has all your data on it. You just need to replace the dead drive and carry on regardless.

Thanks for the heads up.  I actually backed up my computer this morning as it turns out.
