Is Ebay going to completely ban the sales of numismatics? Will other Collectables follow?

Looking at the items that are "restricted" under managed payments, and it being suggested that virtually everyone will be made to join managed payments in the next year or so, raises questions about what types of collectables will no longer be allowed to sold on Ebay.

(1) Will numismatic dealers be banned from the site or waived from having to sign up for managed payments?

On the restricted items page:

https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/selling-policies/managed-payments-restricted-items-policy?id=5...

the following are not allowed:

Coins, notes and virtual currency (only Exonumia, and Publications & Supplies are allowed)

By this American Ebay seller video published on 30th September, all sellers who went onto managed payments on the US site have had their numismatic listings (INCLUDING Exonumia), removed on the day that their managed payments started:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ofg_BdP2Hdg

(2) What other effects will this have on collectables sellers. The following items are "restricted" (for which I am interpreting as banned) under managed payments:

* Cultural heritage objects including artefacts, fossils, relics and cave formations.

Does this include Aboriginal items such as vintage boomerangs, woomeras etc?

If so does it include Aboriginal / Indigenous artworks?

* Tobacco pipes and vaporizers.

This would include antique meerschaum pipes which are a legitimate collectable - will other tobacciana be removed once this is in place?

There are tobacciana categories currently in the Collectables section, (and of course there is a complete section for coins, which it appears most sellers will be disallowed from selling).

=================

So, where is this likely to lead for collectables sellers, and will random things just be banned from sale as this progresses.

Regards,  Kevin

It has been suggested, by a not very reliable newish member to the forums, that sellers of those items won't be sent into managed payments. I have no idea where this member got their info from. If it was true, then those that didn't want to change over would only need to have a few of those "offending" listings and no managed payment headache for them.

From memory, the video I linked above indicated that specialist sellers in numismatics were being delayed on going onto managed payments in the US, but if it was just among your listings with other stuff they were removed as soon as you went onto managed payments. Thus listing a few would not do the job.

This also applied to 1950's and 1960's pin-up posters, which while not nude or pornographic have been deemed to be adult items in the USA..

Edited to fix a typo.

If you need some further info PM BUT the basics of it. IF you fall into one of the grey areas and sell mostly these product you will NOT be going to MP and stay with pay pal with no changes... We have ebay in writing telling us this as we had to split our store into 2 to get around a few things.

To those concerned.....

Confusion over whether eBay was eliminating sales of coins and other numismatic items for sale at its online selling platform is cleared up by company officials.

Steve Halupka, eBay’s manager for emerging verticals, which includes bullion, coins, sports memorabilia and stamps, released the following statement after Coin World inquired about collector confusion and misinformation found in online discussions on collector forums. The concern and rumors derived from ongoing changes to managed payment systems at eBay.

The official statement said, “eBay will continue to allow sales of coins, paper money and bullion now and in the future.”

Further, “eBay sellers that frequently list in coins, paper money and bullion will not be required to register for managed payments until these categories are compatible. Until then, there is no action required and sellers can continue to sell on eBay as they do today.”
