So buyer claims that the item is not genuine, nothing you can do as a seller but accept the return. Even when proving genuine item with a invoice from the manufacture/wholesaler. Becoming a unpleasant place to do business.
All you can do is absorb these costs of doing business hear and move on.

Seller protection? very very rarely have I heard of eBay doing anything except automatically believing the buyer
In fact, and eBay CS staff member once told me outright "buyers don't lie"

Like you said it's becoming an unpleasant place to do business, that's ebay's moto for sucking in buyers lol.
Ebay tells buyers to let them know if their buying experience as in any shape or form unpleasant or damaging towards their health haha
then ebay will kiss their booboo and make it all better lol.
