Other buyers and sellers cannot increase your selling limit for you

This gives you a chance to build up a good reputation by sending within your handling time and with tracking. 

This also protects buyers from scam sellers.

In case you are not aware, Ebay will also hold your money after a sale for 3 weeks+, which gives you a chance to send the item quickly and have a happy customer.
