I received a return request from a customer, but I do not believe their return request is valid. What are my rights?

It very much depends on what reason the buyer is stating for the return.
If they are claiming something is wrong with the item (eg does not work or not as described or similar) then you pretty much have no choice but to accept and pay for the return and then refund, or to simply just refund without return.
If its for a change of mind then it depends on your returns policy. ie if/not you accept returns for this reason.

Even if you get a return, ebay asks you to check condition, but them gives you no option to do anything about it other than refund.
In short if the item is resellable for you and worth more than return post get it back, If not refund and forget.
Defects for faulty returns are being done away with. Defects now will be for sellers not settling disputes.
