Why does my eBay home page often appear in Chinese?

When I sign in to eBay, periodically I find the first page to be written almost entirely in Chinese. Although I am in the U S., I currently find myself signed into the ".au" (Australian) eBay site. Why?

When you view an item from another country it will often redirect to that site and unless you log out or back into your own site, it stays on that country's site.

Always look at the address in the address bar on the browser.
