To help protect your account, we limit the number of items purchased by a single account at any one time. This buying limit is temporary. You can come back soon and buy more items. Protect your eBay account: eBay will never ask you to enter your personal information – such as credit card number or password – in an email. Learn more about safe trading in our Safety Centre.

Cannot Pay

You've just joined eBay (at least, on this account).

You have 0 feedback.

eBay will use buying or selling limits on new accounts as a risk mitigation measure.

❝From time to time, we may place a buying limit or restriction on an account. This is to encourage responsible buying, and to keep our marketplace safe for buyers and sellers.❞

Removing buying limits

If your buying activities have been limited, we'll send you an email explaining why, and what you need to do to have the limits removed. For example, we may need you to confirm that you're completing purchases that you've bid on.

Avoiding buying limits

Buying limits are very rarely applied, but here are some tips to help you avoid them:

  • Only bid on or buy items you plan to pay for
  • Pay for items as soon as possible
  • Improve your Feedback profile by paying promptly and leaving Feedback for sellers
  • Verify your identity by adding a credit card as a payment method to your account

To add a credit card to your account:

  • Select Personal information.
  • Select Edit under Financial Information.
  • Enter your credit card details and choose Continue.

You may be charged a small amount to authorise the account, but this will be refunded within 10 days.

You should read eBay's Buying limits and restrictions Help page for full information.

I also very strongly suggest that you make yourself familiar with the Buying policies and Help pages on eBay, and in particular be aware of the terms and conditions (including timeframes) of the eBay Money Back Guarantee. Buying on eBay is simple, but because buyer protection, like everything else on eBay, is bot-driven with strict timeframes, you can best protect yourself by knowing how all of that works.
