I have had an unauthorised transaction on my credit card for an ebay purchase. Any suggestions on how I might be able to track the seller based on the payment reference? I have notified the bank but hoping to have the purchase cancelled and discover who made the purchase using my details.

Are you sure it's not for eBay fees for a subscription or something sold a month ago ?

I assume it is on a different ID as this one was only opened today.

I had this happen to me today and eBay aren't able to help. You have to contact your bank. I'd let eBay know anyway, though. Just in case they can connect the credit card used and the thief who used the credit card.

Have you bought anything recently? The seller is no longer identified. Have you signed up for eBay Plus? The subscription fee is automatic and explicitly authorised by you.
