Just letting you guys know, so you dont make the same, mistake I did ( maybe it is a known thing??)

Been my self, I wash everything I sell, So I have approx 30 prs,of Faux Touoise shell needles to wash, put them in WARM water,  minutes later, come back, ALL the nobs have perished, also on a FEW of the needle part became brittle,

Alas, I have no Faux tortoise knitting needles, now

Old plastics often don't like warm water.  keep it cold with (carefully) applied elbow grease..don't soak. brasso and more specialised Bakelite polish will buff up the plastic well enough for these, autosol is used on more expensive items. i use polysol on poly (plastic) watch crystal . The tops on the N Needles may have been casein,  an early plastic made from a milk protein which breaks down quite easily .
