Something very interesting has just cropped up.
My father has just handed me a painting, not thinking much about it's provenance.
It appears to have a connection to Simon Simonsen whom married Rigesse Svendsen, daughter of Johanne (Scheibel).
One of my grandfathers is Scheibel.
Here is the interesting part, it looks like it is painted by a famous Danish painter, Johan Ludvig Gebhard Lund, known as JL Lund.
I am wondering if there is an artist connection here to our two families perhaps ?

Oh, so it is. (slaps forehead)
I feel so silly now. Ran away with the excitement and missed the details.
Agree, it looks strange and I am wondering if it was painted of his face after he had died.
I am still trying to find the subjects name. Simon Simondsen (1841 - 1928) is written on the back but Lund was born much earlier in 1777 - 1867.
And there is another date 1856 on the back.
JL Lund is definitely the sig on the painting.
