Unidentified Pottery Object

Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea of what this item is?

It is over 30cm in diameter.

I don't even know where to start to try and find out.

Heavy duty bed warmer? Bouy Weight?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Looks like something a helium balloon seller would use.

Filled with water or sand and holding lots of different balloons. Smiley Very Happy

Or as you suggest to be underwater holding something floating.

What does the impressed wording say? I am guessing 14 is the size?

Hi,

I beleive the only wording on it is the 14 and Made in England.

I can't check right now since it is in storage with all my mothers stuff - I stumbled accross these photos and thought this forum might be a good place to ask about it.

I suppose a foot warmer is a possibility (maybe for in a carriage?) and some of the photos on the below stairs website are similar.

Which leads to the question of how it ended up in North Queensland with my Mum 🙂

Thanks for the responses,

De'ana

Hi De'ana,
as Robert already replied to you, it's a bed warmer. We had one as children, similar but ours was from the 1950s era. Yours is, as Robert said most likely from around the 1920's era. Prior to hot water bottles, one heated water on the wood stove, poured it into the ceramic thing, closed the lid, put it in the bed prior to going to bed. Bed warmer...cheers jilly
