After a day of mid 40's temperatures across the state, a large fire is burning out of control in the Adelaide hills, threatening local townships. Nearly 100 appliances in attendance, with aircraft grounded due to danger from power lines. Stay safe.

"with aircraft grounded due to the danger of powerlines " well that is just dandy - maybe rather than have towns incinerated , not to mention natural State assets , could the power be turned off and have them cut them down, those being well in front of the flame front
Or are they waiting for rain ?

I thought SA had done away with powerlines?
On a more serious note, I'm fairly sure water bombers don't need to be at ground level to effectively deliver. And even a 330kv tower is only about 30 metres tall.

Brilliant deduction ! No need to cut them down !

Buildings damaged in Cherry Gardens fire but rain expected to provide relief

the man arrested, lets hope there is actual evidence he started a fire and that that charge wasnt just tacked on because he was there

Actually is really a vexing issue for those Jonathan Livingston Seagull types who enjoy regional bushland venues ie hiking , fishing , photogarphy or even short touring because local culture born of self-preservation of public image induces a conscious desire to avoid being blamed if by chance there starts a fire in the general visited area - in rural regions one is community guilty until otherwise proven innocent, and someone will notice one's presence - albeit innocuous
For a local person hot windy weather and dry natural bushland puts a damper on enjoying such venues as one is obligated to effectively isolate

But there is flight safety clearance requirements - so 30meters plus another 50 meters , 100 meters ? At what height does water dropped become an ineffective mist ?

CFS expect homes lost overnight as the Prime Minister addresses the media and offers Federal support to bring the fire under control.

Why the offer and not the action ?
