Supermarket giants Woolworths and Coles have drastically
slashed the prices of home brand products to counter
the threat of increasingly popular chain Aldi...

Indeed, good to see some pressure being brought to bear on the big two - they've had too big a monolpoly for too long! And given their weekly specials very often coincide, with the same products being promoted...I'm sure there's a level of collusion going on.
So Aldi seems to be succeeding where others have failed to rattle their cages. I say 'go for it!'
Mind you, shopping at Aldi is still a gamble - there are products I've bought and tried once, that I'll not be buying again. It seems that quality in much of their stock falls well below even the big two generic brands.
Roart meat so tough when cooked, that a serrated knife was needed to cut it -
Frozen desserts that turned to liquid when thawed -
Washing detergents that leave an oily film on dishes -
At least their fresh fruit is hard to get wrong!

The 2 large supermarket chains needed a -wake up call.
The public are the winners in this grocery war.
My local Aldis is moving to larger premises soon.-shows how well
they have been accepted in my town...................................................Richo.

From what I've heard, Aldi are pretty tough negiotiators with their suppliers, but once they've locked in the deal they treat them with respect and don't do the dirty tricks like the 2 major supermarkets do, like penalise them for late delivery or ask them for extra fees for prominence on shelves etc.
