American Sniper

Hubs took me to the movies today to see American Sniper.

I would've preferred The Water Diviner, but I don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Bluddy good movie!

Very good indeed.

I liked the fact they didn't over glorify or ramp up the war scenes or the "gung ho" side.

Sad that in the end...

Spoiler
...he and a colleague were killed by a veteran with PTSD whom they were trying to help. The vet's reasons are still unclear according to what I've read around. Makes me wonder if it wasn't a payback from the Iraqis

I think it would have been found out if it was Iraqis.

And if him, why not others ?

Plenty of other SF Soldiers and Sailors and who they know the names of including the Apache pilots.

Yes it would have been found out but not necessarily made public.

Very hard to keep it under wraps.

And if it did / had occurred, then everyone would want to know
so as to take some precautions.

On that subject, have a read of The Feathermen by Sir Ranulph Fiennes.
SAS based, retaliation for killings in Oman.

Icy

Worth reading up about Carlos Hathcock from Vietnam.

He did it, sometimes all alone, no support, no spotter, no other troops for miles around.

I thought it was a great movie and I'm not a fan of war movies.  Clint Eastwood (84 years old) did an excellent job of directing this movie.  He was able to show us  a man, with tremendous courage and love for his fellow soldiers and his country.

Agree.

I am a fan of war movies but lament the OTT stuff they put in.

I noticed from reading that actual US Navy Seals (and others) were involved in both the Bin Laden movie and this one so they got it right, things like room clearances, holding of weapons etc. It helped that the actors wanted to get it right as well.

Clint did very well with it, it might be his swan song.

I love Clint Eastwood, all his movies are great (well almost all of them) whether he's in them or they are directed by him.

We were going to see American Sniper last weekend but didnt get there. Hopefully we'll see it soon.

icy, Water Diviner is quite good too. A little different to what I expected from the trailer.
