Read the article in the Guardian newspaper. But please go on to read the comments at the bottom of the page. There are some really insightful thoughts there.

And then, as bob would say; Discuss.

It's genocide by increments.
European populations need to vacate the premises to make room for the refugees from africa and the middle-east.

If the population is dwindling and needs to be boosted, why would those who already live there need to vacate the premises to make room for newcomers?

I was hoping that people would read the comments posted beneathe the article.
One common theme is that there is already a high unemployment rate in many EU countries, so by encouraging immigration (unless only the suitably skilled are selected) then that situation becomes worse.
Immigration of unskilled people places a higher burden on govt welfare payments, and this burden falls back onto the tax-payers in these countries.
Many EU-born people are actually leaving to seek work in other countries.
Another point made was that why encouage immigration to boost failing economies, because it is the economic model which is the problem (continued growth of economies come at the expense of the environment and at the expense of the quality of life for EU-born people.
It is the economic model which needs to be changed and the solution is not to bring in even more people. if govt welfare supports immigrants then eventually, govts run out of money to pay pensions, healthcare, schools etc.
it has been likened to a fiscal Ponzi scheme, which will inevitably collapse.

This comment is worth considering:
"This has always seemed totally backwards to me. The economy should service the population- not the other way round. If a population decline results in an economic reconfiguation- shouldn't the remaining population try to adapt to the new conditions? Encouraging people to have babies purely for the salvation of the economy is perverse."

Many of the young people who are leaving, are doing so in search of jobs which pay a living wage.

Yes of course. They're just not living in the villages they've left. Ultimately the villages become depopulated as per the example in your linked article.
