Thankyou so much for bumping this thread, I must have missed it before...I've just lent $25 to a man in Mongolia to help buy building and insulation materials to finish the family home by winter...I have also advertised it on my Facebook, this is a wonderful idea!
I think I'll buy my OH and DD a gift card for Xmas, they'd love it too.

I had four repayments a couple of days ago. I nearly have enough credit but seriously, it does worry me that one borrower is just feeding her cattle. It must be a terrible hardship to pay the money back.
I'd love to see Kiva make it possible to lend the money and then an option to deduct your contribution from money that needed to be paid back.

I guess there are plenty of charities where you can donate directly for a specific purpose, Oxfam is one that comes to mind.
I always think of Kiva being more of a hand up rather than hand out kind of thing. It empowers people to make change, the lady feeding her cattle, will be able to get a better price at market for them or they will be healthier and produce more milk/meat or whatever the goal is.
And Mrs***b thank you for making your first loan, it amazes me to think about how many loans have been generated from this original 'brag' thread. You're more than welcome to join our Community Spirit Kiva team if you like. In less than two months our team of 6 has helped fund 17 loans, they are just our individual loans that get counted toward the teams tally.
