Kruger questions LGBTI scholarship

Is Sonia Kruger right about ‘reverse discrimination’?

THE furore over Sonia Kruger’s latest controversial remarks has reignited the debate over so-called “reverse discrimination”.

When the television host slammed an LGBTI scholarship on Today Extra yesterday morning, she tapped into a deep chasm in popular opinion over which Australians deserve a helping hand.

Speaking out against a $7000 scholarship being reserved for a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex high school student,

Kruger argued that sexuality should not have anything to do with the selection process and scholarships “should be given on merit”.

This prompted her co-host David Campbell to retort that young sports stars have access to a long list of educational scholarships, arguing that the Australian Business and Community Network Scholarship Foundation’s decision to support LGBTI kids was “hardly a big deal”.

Far from being an analphabet as some people like to portray her Sonia Kruger is not uneducated. She most recently gave her opinion concerning a scholarship made available for a LGBTI person. Kruger proved she is no captive of girouettism. She seems to be violently imbued with a functioning mind which is in tune with a lot of other people. Her TV colleague correctly pointed out that people with sporting prowess are also rewarded with scholarships. Yes, that is true however those scholarships are not based on sexual orientation. I wonder if the TV channel she works for is using her as a cat’s paw.

A policy of handing out scholarships to LGBTI people is inchoateness.

Girouettism defeated me.

The article does say towards the bottom that the Pinnacle Foundation was formed to help young people people overcome educational difficulties caused by their sexual orientation.  The scholarships include mentoring and funds to help them through whatever their paricular difficulty they may face; be it bullying, family estrangement, lack of financial support or whatever.  It is a privately created and run body that survives on donations.

What's the problem?

Fairness is not about giving everyone the same thing - it's about giving them what they need to have the same chance

it would seem to me sonia kruger has been in discussions with her bosses to be a type of 'devils advocate' in making statements to get free publicity for her tv program.

it worked well with the 'i'm scared of muslims we should stop them from comming to my country' statement.

is she planning a future as the first 'female shock jock' on radio?

A good final thought to the news piece.  And I hope Sonia  is being paid in gold.

Comparison with  KAK?  Do you think Sonia could get Scott Morrison to dance the Macarena?

If anyone is interested in the slightest, and in an effort to be transparent:

From the ABCN website:

'Applications for 2016 ABCN Scholarships are now open. All Year 10 students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply. Students from outside the ABCN network and students who have not participated in an ABCN program are also eligible.

This year ABCN is offering a number of targeted scholarships including for: an indigenous student, a female student in Victoria, a student from a refugee background, a student who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and/or intersex (LGBTI) and a student from Western Australia. Students selected for targeted scholarships must also meet the primary criteria for a scholarship and will not be identified without consent.

All applications must be submitted online by the school principal on behalf of the student.'

and from the Family Voice Australia* (their spokesman was also quoted in the c&p) website:

'About Us - Beliefs

FamilyVoice Australia upholds Christian values and the family: permanence of marriage, sanctity of human life, primacy of parenthood and limited government.

We Believe:

About Marriage

God made man male and female - equal in status and complementary in role.
God established marriage as the voluntary union of one man and one woman for life.
Good marriages reflect the loving relationship between God and His people.
Marriage is the God-given place for sexual union and the birth and nurture of children.
About Life

All human life is sacred, since we are made in God's image.
Innocent human life must be protected from conception to natural death.
The dignity of every person should be respected.
The unborn child and the helpless aged or disabled deserve special care.
About Families

The family - husband and wife with their natural and adopted children - is the basic unit of society.
God gives parents the responsibility of caring for their children, including loving discipline, education and medical care.
Grandparents have an especially important role in passing on values to their grandchildren.
Strong families provide a firm foundation for a healthy nation.
About God

God has revealed Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit - three persons in perfect relationship as one God.
God is Lord over everyone and everything in heaven and on earth.
The Bible sets out God's way of life for all people.
Salvation comes to us through Jesus Christ alone.
God has entrusted His Church with His Word and the task of making disciples of all nations.
Biblical values are an expression of God's love and holiness, for our highest good.
Scripture provides our standards and nourishes our life with God.
About Government

God has ordained the nation as a social structure for the welfare of peoples.
The primary role of government is to provide for the safety and good order of society.
Governments are accountable to God and their powers should be limited to their God-given role.
Governments should be servants of the people and must treat all people equally and justly.
Christian citizens, as salt and light, should be involved in society and its government.'

or could it be that the majority of free thinking australians are get sick and tired of the PC brigade pandering to the seemingly growing minority groups? educational scholarships should be solely merit based, no special treatment for any group.
