NDIS drowning in bureaucracy ???

So the NDIS is starting to be rolled out. No-one would argue the concept is great, but in true Australian style it looks like a major proportion of the money will get lost in administration and red tape.

Those affected by the scheme have seen many existing, long running and worthwhile programmes axed in order to pay for the NDIS. Any of these existing programmes that try to incorporate into the NDIS to retain funding, find they are swamped with bureaucracy, to the point of being unviable and so many are closing. Recipients of funds face dislocation from long running programmes and inflexible red tape which seems to not take account of the fluid nature of disability support.

One example is that recipients are required to apply for funding for services in advance over fixed 12 month terms. Once approved it is very difficult to change the care programme even if the recipients health needs change over that time.

It seems the bureaucrats have taken over and choked another excellent scheme to death.

it would be interesting to see what percentage of each $ in the NDIS money bag actually reached a client.
