yep, they find 7 planets like earth 30 light years away from earth but they cant find a missing areoplane right here at home

Fair enough point davidc4430, but they weren't looking for a specific planet, they were scanning the (estimated) billions of planets in our galaxy. It's similar to looking for a single needle in a haystack Vs looking for and examining 1000 needles in a haystack, one by one.
