I was looking at a job there years ago,

The medical exam is very stringent.

I have a slight ailment, and couldn't get past the first stage, even though I could go years without any problem.

Years ago I read that a female Dr had to be air lifted back to the mainland by the air force,

because of a life threatening problem.

The female doctor developed breast cancer....she treated herself until the Air Force was able to airlift her out safely.

It was hardly something that could be foreseen.

Thanks for posting that,

I was unable to remember the details of the emergency.

There would be many instances of unforeseen medical issues,

and the medical criteria one must meet, reduces the risk of some emergencies

although mankind has come a long way in the last 50 years, its still a very remote area of the planet and travelling to and from it isnt like driving to your local shopping center.

they still face periods where they are locked down for weeks by bad weather.

I wouldn't care  what they paid,  looking at penguins and ice all day would drive me loopy.   Could always play with  the  huskies though.
