I've been out of circulation for a couple of weeks and haven't seen much news at all. I only caught a snippet on the late news last night.

The Federal Government looks set to introduce a tax on bank deposits in the May budget.
The idea of a bank deposit tax was raised by Labor in 2013 and was criticised by Tony Abbott at the time.

The former Labor Government put forward the policy in 2013 to raise revenue for a fund to protect customers in the event of a banking collapse.
I don't think we currently have any concerns about a banking collapse in this country, so it looks to be purely another revenue raiser

hhhmmm so not a direct tax on people's deposits as such, but a tax on the banks which they, sure as eggs, will pass on to their customers?
Well, that'll go down well. Not!

Well, you can see where my mind is.
I heard that this tax would reap half a billion $ per year. Banks will pass it on to customers, and I hope that pensioners will be exempt.

I don't like it. I thought we were supposed to be cutting federal expenditure, not imposing new taxes.
