There seems to be a problem today with the tracking page on the auspost site so I checked their Updates page. There's no mention of problems today but there is a planned outage for an upgrade this weeked. There's also an update about possible mail delays due to the extreme weather in Sydney yesterday.
Mail delays in NSW

Australia Post customers are advised to anticipate delays due to extreme weather conditions that led to the closure of Sydney airport overnight.
The delivery of letters and parcels are likely to be affected, as well as delays to some Express Post items sent to New South Wales from Melbourne, Hobart, Launceston, Brisbane and Adelaide. Mail sent from Bathurst has also been impacted due to road closures.
Contingency plans are in place for affected mail and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
Customers who are concerned about their item are advised to track their item(s) at auspost.com.au/track or call our Customer Contact Centre on 13 13 18.

We're upgrading!

We're undertaking a significant upgrade to our digital services which will enable us to provide a more reliable and resilient service to our customers.
As part of a planned outage to upgrade our services, the Australia Post website (auspost.com.au) will be unavailable for up to 26 hours from 10pm AEDT on Friday 17 October until midnight AEDT on Saturday 18 October 2014.
This outage affects tools including Track your Item, Find a Postcode, Currency Converter and Postage Calculator, as well as the Developer Centre and Our Neighbourhood websites.
