Help - Can you please tell me if my listing is displaying correctly?

Hi There,

Like most seller I guess, I had to go and fix all my listings to meet ebays active content rules.

I fixed all of my listings and confirmed with the ebays active content checker and the isdntek active content checker that I no longer had any listings that did not comply.

I have been watching my sales drop over the past month or so and had been wondering why. Then I recently realised that most of my listings are not displaying the description any more, nearly all of them are displaying the "see full description" button.

I rang ebay and they tried to tell me that my listings were displaying correctly but so far I have contacted half a dozen family members and asked them to look and they also don`t see the listings, only the "see full description" button.

I was wondering if some people would be kind enough to look at some of my listings and tell me or send screenshots of what you see so that I can be sure before ringing ebay again.

Here are 3 listings

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/122358986470

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/122368192801

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/122569753653

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Kevin.

Re: Help - Can you please tell me if my listing is displaying correctly?

If they read the link stawks provided, the fourth announcement down says listings with active content won't be shown properly so it's most likely their active scrollers. I don't know how they passed their checker but ebay mentions a different checker in their announcement. I'd say so far they just randomly block listings, hence some listings with active content showing okay and others not.

Re: Help - Can you please tell me if my listing is displaying correctly?

Thanks but the slider is active content compliant.

You can still use sliders as long as they are not coded with Java script.

As I have shown non of my listings have active content as checked by 2 content checkers and now confirmed by ebay support.

Ebay is also puzzled by this, but they have no solution either. i have just spent 2 hours in chat with them. They confirm that there is no active content but cannot say why my listings will not display the descriptions and they are not going to help any further it would seem.

Re: Help - Can you please tell me if my listing is displaying correctly?

Yes you are correct, it was a bit of wishful thinking on my behalf. I thought if it worked for me that others must be using it, but I soon realised there are too many different people seeing the same thing, and everyone couldn`t have the exact same set up as me.

This has been confirmed with people using firefox seeing the same thing, and now you with no extensions also seeing the same.

As for the extension, yeah I don`t really understand it and don`t really need it to be honest, and now it has led me on a bit of a goose chase because I marked the post as solved when it is far from solved.

After 2 hours on chat with 3 different representatives I am pretty certain that ebay either dont care or don`t know how to fix it. I guess if it was happening to more people they would but if I am the only one with an issue then I can see why they wouldn`t care.

I'm afraid I can't offer anything that has'nt been mentioned already, except to ask if you have spoken to a supervisor yet?

You still have insecure links.  All need to be https:// including eBay links.  Your store links aren't eg

<a href="http://stores.ebay.com.au/Oz-Aqua/Air-Stones-/_i.html?_fsub=11347056012&_sid=1056354392&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322" class="aa" target="_blank">Air Stones</a>

Need to replace with

<a href="https://stores.ebay.com.au/Oz-Aqua/Air-Stones-/_i.html?_fsub=11347056012&_sid=1056354392&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322" class="aa" target="_blank">Air Stones</a>

Do a search and replace with

Search  <a href="http://

Replace <a href="https://

Re: Help - Can you please tell me if my listing is displaying correctly?

<Removed>

You are correct that the store url should be https but just changing urls in my listings of any links to my store to https does not magically make my store https compliant. Which is the real issue here.

I discovered the cause of my issue regarding my listings and yes it was that my ebay listings were linking to my store from the url http instead of https. But my store was not https compliant, so I unlinked every listing and they then became secure. So the http store link in my listings is not the issue at all because it is not a live link, otherwise my listings would still not be compliant which they all are.

So now you are the one who knows all, tell me why my store still displays as insecure because noone at ebay can.

I fixed all of my listings.

I went through my ebay store code with a fine tooth comb, and even changed every single link in it to ebays home page to ensure that there were no non compliant links. I checked stylesheets, I checked every single image.

So I contacted ebay again and asked. Their first answer seemed reasonable, they said it was because I was still using the old store layout with a custom design. I was advised to opt in to the new modern layout and told that I would lose my custom design as this was no longer allowed by ebay. I was told that once I opted in to the new layout my store would then display as secure.

I opted in to the new layout and waited. My store still displayed as insecure, so I contacted them again and showed them screenshots of the insecure icon in my browser and asked them to give me any suggestions of why my store still displayed this insecure warning instead of the green https which displays a secure connection.

The reply that I received was truly flabbergasting. I was told (and I will prove it) that the grey round icon with an exclamation mark in the browser window, which when clicked shows a warning that says this page is not secure, do not use a credit card as it could be hijacked by hackers, was in fact not a warning but instead it was a sign that the page was secure and that it helped protect visitors by repelling hackers!!!!

I replied to ebay to tell them that I was astounded that a customer support person would give such a clearly inaccurate, and in my opinion potentially dangerous information. I showed them a screenshot of the ebay homepage which was secure and a screenshot of my ebay store with the insecure warning highlighted and the obvious non-secure icon.

And guess what, I never heard from them again.

My brother in law is a solicitor so he is going to act on my behalf and contact an ombudsman for me. In his opinion ebay has not met their obligations as an Australian market place by instigating rules that can have a negative impact on a persons selling ability without providing adequate support for sellers to meet these new expectations.

In my situation it is clear that I followed all reasonable steps as outlined by ebay. If my store was displaying as secure then I could relink my listings to my ebay store and my earning potential would be increased. I have followed the steps of opting in to ebays modern layout, which by default should be https compliant since we no longer have the ability to customise it or host our own images. So my ebay store should show as secure but it does not show as secure.

I have spent, not days but weeks trying resolve this, and have spoken to more than 6 ebay representatives who all have given me inaccurate information, all of which I have documented and have given to my brother in law to present to the ombudsman.

<Removed>This forum is meant to be for ebay members to help each other with issues that arise, not bring them down. We certainly need to help each other when we are dealing with a company such as ebay who blatently allows buyers to manipulate the system to their own advantage at a sellers expense because they know that they can always replace sellers but without buyers they would have no market place.

A company who says it is no longer part of PayPal but still acts in a way that favours them, like how ebay does not give us an option to allow it to take its fees when a customer pays the seller which would result in the seller being charged PayPal fees only on the actual amount they earn. Instead the seller receives the full amount and is charged by PayPal on the whole amount, even though a large part of that amount is comprised of ebay fees and ebay pre paid postage. Just imagine how much extra Paypal is making from this? 25% of my takings goes back to ebay for fees and postage. If this was taken out at checkout I would reduce my PayPal fees by 25%.

I will update this thread with the outcome of my dealings with the ombudsman.

Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read this post all the way to the end.

If so I suggest that you get your facts correct before making comments.

I think you will find that that profanity line is a posting signature i.e. it appears at the bottom of every post for that poster.  I can’t see that line on the other poster’s posts as I have signatures not showing in my settings.

Re: Help - Can you please tell me if my listing is displaying correctly?

I went and turned on signatures and found another post by gec on another thread.  Here tis:

kopenhagen’s siggie is easily seen to be a siggie because it has a graphic in it.

Some members will separate their signature from their post by a line of ***********’s or - - - - -‘s, but others do not.

Here’s one that is easily seen as a siggie:

Re: Help - Can you please tell me if my listing is displaying correctly?

Cheers, thanks for pointing that out and for showing me how to not see the signatures any more.

Actually after I posted I contemplated whether it might have been a signature, but I decided I wasn`t sorry for my comments because having a comment such as that as a signature without a line above it or any quotation marks is bound to confuse others and make them feel that the comment was directed at them also.

It makes any comment made by that poster seem as if he is being a smart alec.

So I suggest to that poster if this is not their intention then they should clearly show that it is a quote and not part of their post.
