Is there some way to switch off this entire 'offers' option on my account? It's driving me mad!

We list a number of items each month, some are specialised things that take a few weeks for the right buyer to find, but with recent changes to the relisting process, when anything is relisted, the 'accept offers' option is automatically turned on, even though we've deliberately turned it off when we made the listing.

We know what we want for each item, we also follow eBay's suggestions for minimum acceptable prices, and yet the relist system automatically allows 'offers' of 50% of our minimum price.

I just had a half price 'offer' made by some bottom feeder who was obviously watching a listing end and be relisted. If I wanted to accept half what I was asking for an item, I'd list it on Gumtree, at least that's free...

I really want the 'accept offers' option to be opt in, not opt out, on my entire account...

If you relist items individually and don't get the edit page, the offers option is automatically checked. it is simple enough to uncheck it before relisting.

If you relist in bulk or through the edit page, it isn't checked.

That is if auto-accept isn't selected. If it is, eBay will be the one imposing it and you will need to edit everything, every time. It doesn't sound like this is the case as auto-accept obviously wasn't there for your offerer.

Who is not necessarily a bottom feeder. They may well be somebody trying to gauge (given they think you accept offers) what your lowest price is. The normal process with offers is that each party gets 3 goes. So a lowball initial offer will often be followed by a more acceptable one if the seller indicates what sort of discount they will countenance.

I’m 100% understanding of your frustration in this matter.
I put a lot of care and thought into my listings and I don’t need EBay to change them.
The other day I spent 30 minutes on a help chat with a supposed EBay customer service person trying to get them to understand that I wanted to know where the check box was to block Ebay from changing my listings.
All I got out of this person was that I could go and revise my listings. I shouldn’t have to be constantly checking and revising my listings to undo what EBay have done. I’ts a waste of valuable time.
Soon we’ll all just have to list our items for double the amount we actually want to allow for the inevitable 50% off listed price best offer option forced upon us. 😡

Yes, I've always preferred eBay to Gumtree because when I set a reserve on eBay it is (or rather was) the minimum amount I could expect for my item, so I was happy to set a genuine minimum abount and pay fees to achieve it. Gumtree is free, but up until now the listed price was always the maximum I could hope for, so I always added a buffer to it to compensate.

I'm now reviewing all my eBay listings, reducing them to a single week, and making sure I uncheck the 'allow offers' box. This will mean far fewer listings, but that's obviously the way they want to run the show.

You only have a few listings now, so easy to keep in check, but if you have a lot of buy it nows, doing a bulk edit to remove the best offer makes it quick and simple.

The point is if we wanted to add offers we could go in and click add offers instead we have to manually go un and check the dont allow offers and we shouldn’t have to.

I don’t have a resolution for you sorry. The other night I had to manually change 130 relisted so I will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread 🧐🧐

Given the poster asked in 2018, and the last reply was also in 2018  I don't think they would still be waiting for a resolution or that there is much point in waiting on updates on a four year old thread, given how many things have changed on eBay between then and now

Might be better to start your own, current thread to watch for updates on

This thread was started by the OP on ‎23-09-2018.

That's just shy of 4 years ago.

It's sometimes hard to see the date on a thread, but when it's so long ago (and the last reply was also in September of 2018), it is a good idea to double-check the thread's age. Posting on old threads brings them back up to the top of the list, which is frustrating. Old threads frequently have out-of-date information, or have old problems long since solved.

Begin a new thread.

We'll all keep our eye on it.
