New postage costs system

Hi all,

Under the new system do they still cube parcels over 1kg if you're using your own packaging? I didn't think they did, but am getting mixed messages from their website. TIA.

Parcels sent using own packaging under 5kg are charged according to their actual weight or cubic weight equivalent, whichever is greater.

With the new rates I would really recommend stocking up on the Aust Post satchels -  you can always put your own box inside a satchel.

Thanks Currone. I'll have to check the sizes of the largest one. It might not be big enough. 😞 The item only weighs just over 1 kg, but it's bulky.

On the AP Domestic Regular parcel charges sheet, there are two tables for up to 5kg post.  Table 1 spells out the charges using your own packaging - cubing is not applied.

However Table 2 - Parcels over 5kg up to 22kg - the charges listed are only for using AP packaging.  If you use your own packaging, cubing still applies.  I just rang Aust Post to confirm this.

It may be worth you printing out a copy of these tables for reference.

well I don't think that's right - the new booklet definitely says cubing will apply

Do you have a link for your Table 1 and Table 2?

and I still get cubing:

No, wait!!!   I see it only applies to table 2, you are so right.
