I was unable to find any info on this on the Aust Post website so I asked at my local PO today...
This is the info they gave me.
Thursday 24th - Cleared as normal
Friday 25th - NOT Cleared
Saturday 26th - NOT Cleared
Sunday 27th - NOT Cleared
Monday 28th - NOT Cleared
Tuesday 29th - Cleared as normal
Wednesday 30th - Cleared as normal
Thursday 31st - Cleared as normal
Friday 1st Jan - NOT Cleared
Saturday 2nd Jan - NOT Cleared
Sunday 3rd Jan - NOT Cleared
Monday 4th Jan - NOT Cleared
Tuesday 5th Jan - Cleared as normal
I would guess any mail cleared on Thu 24th and Thu 31st will just sit in the sorting centres for a few days.
So it would be up to you if/not you put mail in them on those two days.

That's insane. I wonder how many red boxes will start overflowing. Four consecutive days without being emptied??
Thanks for the info.

I've never seen the street boxes overflowing and we have had 3 and 4 day breaks before.
Is it really necessary to post when you know the items will sit there for up to 4 days.

Ours were full to the brim last year when I went to post something. I went back home with my items and left it until the PO opened again. People had tried to keep stuffing more in and they were easily grabbed by opening the flap. I wasn't taking any chances.

Did you ask why they aren't clearing on Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th?
I don't think Monday 4th or Tuesday 5th are holidays are they?
on 11-12-2015 08:51 PM
Mon 28th Dec and Mon 4th Jan are apparently Aust Post gazetted holidays so no red street boxes will be cleared on those days.

Our local red street box is one of the smaller format ones on a pole.
It's not uncommon for that one to be full when I go there at around 4:30pm to mail our stuff.
So I have to drive a bit further to where I know there is a large format pillar box type one to fit our stuff in.

By the way I will be increasing our handling times out to 4-days during the Xmas-NY break to compensate for ebays wrong estimates.
I don't believe that the ebay estimated delivery dates (EDD) will take things like Aust Post shutdowns into account.

Ours is the larger pillar box type outside the PO and it still overflowed last year!

Four consecutive days without being emptied??

I know it's Christmas time, but this happens every Easter. Also, just because the red boxes or Post Offices may not be open, perhaps the sorting centres will continue over the days that aren't public holidays. I often see a Sat or Sun on tracking.
