Sending a laptop by mail

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has sent a laptop in the mail. This is not actually an eBay sale its for a friend but reading through the AP site and googling it is not very clear and I thought this group may have some ideas?

It seems as long as it is packed correctly then it is OK, but then it seems unclear if this should be sent by road only. Anyone any clear ideas?

The last laptop I bought was packed in about half a kilo of bubblewrap. The battery was installed, but I can't remember if it was road only.

As a rule of thumb, given Australia Post specifically state that items with installed Lithium-Ion batteries can't be transported by air, I would mark it road only. Or take the battery out.

also, if it is an expensive laptop and you want to insure it, you'll find that aus post's "extra cover" doesn't cover electronic goods of any sort of decent value, along with insurance you may purchase via any additional courier. you usually need to read the fine print pretty carefully :]
