Why is selling so expensive??

Why is selling on Ebay so expensive? I am charged for all these "extras" that Ebay does not even organise for me, like shipping?! Each order I loose a good chunk of the profit to eBay, it hardly seems worth selling on eBay with other free selling services. Can someone please explain why it is so expensive to send the odd item on Ebay?

Why is selling so expensive??

Ebay is not expensive in comparison to selling on Amazon, for example.

There is always a cost to use any selling platform - Ebay's fees are just under 14% of the combined item + postage, and have been for a long time.

The fees are outlined in the seller guide, so you should be aware of what the costs will be before you list.

Of course, you can try sell your items on FB market place or Gumtree, but they also come with problems and risks, such as having strangers come to your house, or people not even turning up at all when you're waiting around for them, etc.

They charge just under 14%,  thats clearly shown.

Not sure what you mean by extra's,  but if you don't like their offering,  go to GumTree or FB marketplace,  they are free, but you get heaps of tyre kickers, no shows,  bargain hunters, but not a heap of sales.

You get what you pay for.

The only 'extra' you would be paying if you don't do sub-titles and multiple categories is fees on postage.

These have been in place since 2014, so SEVEN YEARS ago. GST on fees since the Australian government mandated it.

Have you only just noticed?

Or are you thinking that the current fees, which include what Paypal used to charge, have suddenly jumped? They haven't.

And on MP you get virtually unlimited listings for free.
