can I lower a maximum bid if it has not yet been reached?

I have put on a maximum bid for an item . It is nowhere near my maximum bid with 2 days to go. I would like to lower my maximum bid if it is at all possible. If I not I am happy to wear it as it is my own faulf -but worth a try if I can lower thebid.
