GST on low value goods imported into Australia

I am aware that GST now applies to low value goods imported to Australia and that it is set at 10% of the value.  However, I have just added goods to my cart as follows:

Goods cost = $7.07

Postage = $24.83

Sub-total = $31.90

GST @ 10% $3.19

Total cost as far as I can calculate is therefore $35.09

So why is the total showing $39.29?

Anyone aware of the reason for this?

Are you buying through the GSP?

Pitney Bowes charges fees for collecting the GST

I think it should show a breakdown on your invoice?

Maybe it's listed as customs and import duty?

I've never bought....and never will....via the GSP

Someone else may be able to enlighten us.

Pitney Bowes charge a fee to process the international postage which is part of the extra amount.....and there is GST payable on that fee as well.

Buying from a seller using the GSP is by far the most expensive way of buying from the USA and UK.
