Could it have been used on a ship? Or what? I realize it has no monetary value, but bought it out of pure curiosity. I'm assuming (rightly or wrongly) that the 3T stands for 3 Ton.
Any guesstimates will be appreciated.

Hard to say, these were still used a lot in early 1900's but could be late 1800's.
Depending on wood used, how the metal has been made etc.
The style of the type suggests an older style so my guess would be late 1800's considering the wood looks in very good condition, otherwise I would have said a little earlier.
