Oil painting from around 1950's. Need help with artist.

Hi. This painting is from around the 1950's.  I am not sure of the artist, but I've seen similar paintings somewhere.

Any ideas please?

Looks like a faint signature to me in the bottom left corner

It would be lovely if it were by Rex Newell!    I've just had a look at some of his outback paintings, and a few

are quite similar.

I have finally taken the back off, and still can't find a signature.  

I can't really see one in the bottom left corner, but there are possibly 3 faint letters. 

I'll let you know if I find out anything else.
