Australian made food addendum

I've started this because I don't want to disrupt the other worthwhile thread.

I have always deliberately avoided buying Australian grown rice.  I worry about the huge water resources neeed to grow rice in this arid country.

Feel free to convince me why I should change, because in other foodstuffs I do try to buy locally.

Sorry, I just looked further down the page and saw the other thread.  I probably should have posted in there.

Re: Australian made food addendum

Very good point.

I don't have any numbers on this.

But I suspect Aussie grown rice is only grown in a wet region.

Fact - Doongara is an aboriginal word meaning white lightning.

This seems to address the very issue you have raised. Hope it is helpful.

Great link. Crop rotation seems to be the key.

I would've thought that the lack of food hygiene controls in places like Thailand is

enough argument.

Most of our rice is grown in Thailand, and just packed here.

Thanks NFS. At a quick glance that looks very interesting.  I'm supposed to be writing a report atm, so I'll read it in detail later.
