Playboy confirmed news in a tweet this afternoon, describing Hefner as an American icon.
He died in his home, Playboy Enterprises said in a statement.
The World War II veteran and journalist founded the magazine, which included images of nude women, in 1953.

Were there pictures of nude women in Playboy?
The copies my mother let me see only had print articles in them...

I always wondered why there wasn't a "Playgirl" magazine to keep the balance .....

I once got a Playboy for my birthday with the good bits cut out.
RIP Hef, and thanks for the memories.

LOL, the mind boggles.
I received the good bits in the mail about a week after I was given the Playboy for my birthday with them all cut out. I had a great time trying to match the bits with their owners, but the paper glue back then wasn't that crash hot. Most of the bits turned out all wrinkly and a funny colour. Sigh again...
